Prayer Request 10/23 - 10/29

Tuesday
Every year, cities in China must create jobs for 25 million people, half of whom are young students, and a quarter of them are college graduates. The remaining 10 million are new military retirees and the unemployed looking for work. The Chinese army is the largest in the world and gets many recruits because it means a good job prospect after service. We take this time to remember all those who are retired from church ministry, the old pastors, many of whom are female, and we ask God to give them health, joy, adequate finances and continuing respect from their congregation.
Wednesday
In the days since the Cultural Revolution in China, the attitude of the government toward religions has softened or relaxed and they no longer try to eradicate them. However, strict control of all religions continues unabated and the Religious Affairs Bureau still tightly monitors all religions. We pray for God's grace to be abundant in the future direction the churches in China take. We know the thoughts of kings are in His hands. This is the year for transition of leadership in the Communist Party and we pray for every church and all believers that they will be in favor with the officials.
Thursday
The common monthly pension for the elderly in China is about 1600 yuan and of that, they will probably spend 1000 yuan for medicine. So most elderly people need some support from their children and are unable to afford nursing home care. Generally speaking, churches have little or no resources to care for elderly believers so this kind of thing falls on volunteer brothers and sisters who do it out of compassion. We pray that the Lord will use their home visits, Bible reading, and prayer times to be a special comfort and blessing to the elderly.
Friday
Using the public fund to go on “learning trips”, buy fancy cars and lavish dinners is a manifestation of China’s corruption problem. Average citizens are very incensed by these outlandish perks and outright abuse. Corruption starts with the mentality that "everyone is doing it, and why should I not take advantage of the opportunity" ? Let us pray for ourselves so we will always have the fear of God in our hearts and beware of greed.
Saturday
Corruption and lavish spending by public officials is of epidemic proportion in China. Average citizens are fed up by how officials spend so extravagantly. They are incensed to see officials clutching expensive handbags and wearing gold-plated watches at official functions. If lavish spending by officials can be successfully controlled, it could be a turning point in the building of a cleaner government in China. As believers must interact with corrupt officials, they must curry favors from them without paying the necessary bribe. Let us pray for their hearts to be guarded and that they will have wisdom in times of need.
Sunday
The Chinese Premier banned the use of public funds to buy expensive cigarettes and "high-end" alcohol, especially hard liquor- Maotai brand liquor. The addition of this prohibition could threaten the future of the ruling party. The ban could also hurt sales for some luxury brands because they are often used for gifting or bribery. Materialism and greed are the great enemies of the church. As Chinese Christians become wealthier, we pray that our their love for the Lord will not become lukewarm and their churches stay committed to the preaching of His Word.
Monday
China's so-called "Golden Time" TV programs include game shows, soap operas, dating competitions, and singing contests. These are unique to China since the audience gets a chance to vote for their favorite contestants. Under government pressure the number of such shows has been cut from over 120 to fewer than 40 a week. We pray for special grace for the churches in China that they will have powerful teaching regarding healthy recreation and how culture impacts our faith. May the Lord give us wisdom so our faith is not compartmentalized in our lives.

每年中國城鎮需要安排的勞動力在2500萬人左右，其中青年學生大約占了一半，高校畢業生近四分之一；剩下的1000多萬個新增勞動力中，包括軍隊轉業人員、下崗失業的人員。解放軍是世界上最大的軍隊，許多人擠破頭要加入，因為退役之後，容易找工作。我們紀念退休的傳道人，其中許多是女性。求主賜給他們身體健康，有喜樂的心，也有充足養生的財物，更能繼續享受會友們的關心與尊重。

中國在文革後逐步揚棄「宗教是人民鴉片」的觀點，並認識到消滅宗教的政策不可行。然而，這並不代表開放對宗教事務的管理，反之，宗教組織的嚴密管控，一直沿用舊有管理體制。我們為今年中央導層的替換交接禱告，深信「王的心在耶和華手中，好像隴溝的水隨意流轉。」求神充沛施恩典於中國教會，激勵信徒能在這世代裡為主發光、發熱；也親手引領未來的發展，使福音廣傳黃土大地。

在中國，生活不能自理的老人選擇養老院時會遇到很大的困難。想入住政府辦的社會福利院目前都要排長龍，預計要十年之久。如果老人突然生病，短期內根本無法進入養老院安養。許多年長的信徒一旦生病，家人不願送他們到教會，就從此無法聚會。 求主恩待、憐憫所有無法再參加聚會或殘障的信徒們，他們仍能經歷主的喜樂及聖靈的同在。

「三公消費」早已成為一種普遍的現象，所謂的「三公消費」指的是用公款出國旅遊、購置高級公務車供私人用途及用公款大吃大喝。這些全是典型的腐敗行為，長期以來也飽受社會輿論所詬病。社會腐敗普遍化，是因著每個人都認為大家都是這樣做，自已不撈一筆就吃虧了。做為神的兒女，信徒們更要儆醒禱告，好叫我們不失去敬畏神的心，也不貪婪被錢財迷惑而得罪神。

現今中國民眾對於官員們及其親屬帶著昂貴的皮包和手錶, 身上穿金戴銀，用著人民的稅收來滿足他們物質上的享受十分不滿。 因此，嚴控三公是廉政建設的關鍵一役。嚴控三公是可以讓中國政府變得更清廉的轉捩點。每一天信徒可能需要與官員打交道，甚至也要按照所謂「潛規矩」討好送禮。求主保守我們的心，讓我們都能有智慧來應付這些棘手的人際「關係」。

國務院出台的《機關事務管理條例》﹐明確禁止使用公款購買昂貴香煙及名酒，尤其是茅台酒。官方意識到腐敗會威脅到執政黨的未來。而這項禁令也必定降低某些奢侈品牌的銷售，因為奢侈品往往是用來做送禮或行賄的通行選項。感謝主，中國的基督徒遠比以前更是富有，但物質主義與貪婪成為教會最大的敵人。求主幫助我們，對主的愛不減少，教會不冷淡，也不懈怠傳福音的使命。

電視的「黃金時段」有各樣的遊戲節目、肥皂劇、相親比賽以及歌唱比賽。普通中國老百姓藉著這些節目，才有機會給自己喜歡的人投一票。在政府施壓之下，這類節目的數量已經銳減，從每週120多個減少至不足40個。求主恩待教會，在通俗娛樂文化對信仰的衝擊中，教會能有力的教導，基督徒也知道如何不浪費光陰。也求主憐憫我們，不將信仰與實際生活做兩分法的割裂，能在平衡中發揮更多正面的影響力。

Tuesday
China reveled in her first Chinese-born author who won the Nobel Prize for literature. Many detractors, however, questioned Mo Yan's identity as a "government writer" while others felt his work showed he cared a lot about social issues. The division between house and official churches still runs deep and will probably last for another generation. Let us pray for the healing of this gaping wound and beseech our Heavenly Father to give the churches in China a true unity based on His word and the sanctification of all of His people
Wednesday
Recently a banner hung in front of an open church in Zhejiang Province which said: "Firmly support and defend China's God-give Diaoyu Islands". Ironically, it hung above the words, "Jesus loves me". Christians in China do struggle with the Great Commission of Jesus to take the gospel to the whole world and their ever surging nationalistic fervor and pride. Let us pray that we will not become self-centered and self-righteous and forget to love those who have wronged us.
Thursday
In the aftermath of the widespread riots and smashing of Japanese cars during the dispute over the Diaoyu Islands, sales of Japanese cars plummeted in China. This week, in a gesture of goodwill, Japanese car dealers offered a deep discount exchange or repair of damaged cars. In a time of crisis businessmen know how to quickly adapt and do much to retain their customers. Christians could learn a lot from them. It is our prayer that the Lord help us to preach His word without compromise. Even more than that, may we love our neighbors not only in word, but also in deed.
Friday
In the past the house churches in China have not established a reasonable salary scale for their pastors. Their problem is that they have a tradition which says it is not Biblical to do so because if their pastors serve without a salary, it is a sign they have faith in God to provide for them. It is sad to see the large number of believers in China and then see the small offerings they give. Those who do give are often considered to be rich so they should give. We pray that each of us will be among the first to show our love for God and His people by not withholding our offerings to Him.
Saturday
Driving the sale of books in China is a literate population which emphasizes education and self-improvement. Popular non-fiction books include those about knowing how to get rich or find love. Many believers are also trying to get rich or find love quickly. Some churches teach the extremely wrong theology that God always gives us what we need or even want. We pray that believers will know what is and what is not Biblical and will not be led astray.

Parents in China are eager to pour all of their resources into their single offspring, thus creating a growing market for children's books for the little ones. English books whether novels or aids to learning are also in great demand. We take this time to pray for all believers with small children that the Lord will remind them that they as parents should spend time with their children telling them Bible stories and praying with them daily.
Monday
In bookstores in China, books about crime and romance are as popular as "wuxia" (adventure stories about chivalrous martial heroes) and the so-called "officialdom fiction" which contain tales of political intrigue that double as "how-to" guides for aspiring officials. Many believers avidly read these fiction books so their minds are living in that kind of world. We pray that the things we read, listen to, and enjoy will please God so we are not ensnared in the trap of mere entertainment and sin against God.

首位中國籍作家莫榮獲諾貝爾文學獎，在舉國歡騰的同時，不少人對莫言的「官方作家」身分提出質疑；但也有人認為，他的作品具有強烈社會關懷。家庭教會和三自教會之間的裂痕雖有改進，但恐怕還需要再一代的時間來融合。我們來為基督的身體禱告，求天父給教會看見祂的旨意，以致在真理上有真正的合一，並藉著神的話，在日期滿足之前持守聖潔純全。

最近浙江一間三自教堂門前，掛起了「堅決維護上帝賜給中國的釣魚島」的紅色橫幅，下方還有教會「耶穌愛我」的標語。在民族主義熱情和自豪感不斷湧動下，信徒似乎漸漸忘了把福音廣傳的大使命。求恩主提醒屬祂的人不要自我中心，更不要自義，而是在滿了紛爭的世界裡，做和平之子，竭力散佈仁愛寬恕的種籽。

在釣魚島示威遊行中，不少日本車成了群眾的發洩對象，被當街砸爛；日製汽車的銷量亦因而大幅下降。最近某日本汽車公司代理宣佈，為所有在示威中遭損壞的汽車提供優惠的零件更換或維修服務。在危機中，商人的應變能力及堅持提供良好服務的素質，確實是基督徒當學效的。求主幫助我們，無論在什麼景況裡，都遵行神的旨意，並且用實際行動，愛鄰舍如同自己，活出基督的生命。

多年來，家庭教會始終沒有在傳道人的供應上有合理的安排，因為傳統上來說，他們認為傳道人應該靠信心生活，不支薪更能彰顯其信心，神自然會供應他們。中國教會的信徒與奉獻不成正比。愛主願意奉獻的弟兄姐妹，常被認為「他們有錢，奉獻是應該的。」求主提醒、幫助我們學習在主裡真切相愛：「不愛他所看見的弟兄，就不能愛沒有看見的神」(約一4:20)。

中國人民的教育程度普遍提高了，也願意藉閱讀自我提昇，這是中國的書籍鎖售高的主要原因。至於教人致富或是追尋愛情的書亦相當暢銷。許多信徒也熱衷尋找致富及愛情的捷徑，然而不少教會卻有偏激甚至錯誤的教導，傳遞信耶穌就能得到這些好處的資訊，不單使信徒走錯路，更令許多慕道者沒有真正得著永生的福份。我們禱告信徒能有分辨真理的智慧，不被世風引至歧路上。

中國父母願意在獨生子女身上花錢，成為中國兒童圖書的龐大市場。無論學科書本、英文書籍或小說，都有極大的需求量。我們為有幼齡子女的信徒父母禱告，願主提醒他們教養孩子做一個敬神愛人的人，到老也不偏離；並且願意每天花時間向孩子述說神的真道，與孩子一同禱告，就是神對為人父母們最大的託負。

在中國書店裡，有關冒險、英雄救美的書籍，如警匪、愛情與武俠等等的小說，都十分暢銷。近來的「官場小說」，充滿利益、慾望爭競，再加上政治陰謀，也是特受歡迎的題材。不少信徒沈迷於這類小說中，以致無法專心生活，只活在虛擬的世界裡。求主教導我們，謹慎我們所欣賞、閱讀及聆聽的各樣媒體，竭力逃避那些不討主喜悅的事物及嗜好，不容自己沾染世界的汙穢。

城市新興教會以年輕人為主，他們與老一輩不一樣，與「三自」教會也沒有多少歷史恩怨。由於人數又相對比較少，也不隸屬其他更大的「家庭教會」，因此被 稱為「獨立教會」。城市新興教會具有其特徵，雖然獨立於「三自」教會，其實更具備實質的「三自」色彩。我們為年輕信徒的牧養需要來禱告，他們的生活非常忙碌，要工作又要照顧孩子，他們亟需婚姻家庭方面的輔導，和兒童教養和親子關係等的培訓。

以年輕人為主的城市新興教會, 從地域來說遍佈全國各大城市。尤其在北京，到處都是這型的教會。有的社區甚至每隔一條街就有一間教會。在上海，城市新興教會數目反而少一些。這種新興教會的人數也非常多,遠遠超過傳統的「三自」教會。我們為城市教會感恩，求主保守、興旺他們那股傳福音的心志，也特別為弟兄姐妹有合一的靈來祈求，不要動輒不合就離開，另外再建教會點，當信徒彼此相愛互相建造，福音必然興旺。

城市新興教會以年輕人為主，他們與老一輩不一樣，與「三自」教會也沒有多少歷史恩怨。由於人數又相對比較少，也不隸屬其他更大的「家庭教會」，因此被 稱為「獨立教會」。城市新興教會具有其特徵，雖然獨立於「三自」教會，其實更具備實質的「三自」色彩。我們為年輕信徒的牧養需要來禱告，他們的生活非常忙碌，要工作又要照顧孩子，他們亟需婚姻家庭方面的輔導，和兒童教養和親子關係等的培訓。
星期一
以年輕人為主的城市新興教會, 從地域來說遍佈全國各大城市。尤其在北京，到處都是這型的教會。有的社區甚至每隔一條街就有一間教會。在上海，城市新興教會數目反而少一些。這種新興教會的人數也非常多,遠遠超過傳統的「三自」教會。我們為城市教會感恩，求主保守、興旺他們那股傳福音的心志，也特別為弟兄姐妹有合一的靈來祈求，不要動輒不合就離開，另外再建教會點，當信徒彼此相愛互相建造，福音必然興旺。

Prayer Request 10/2 - 10/8

Tuesday
In the early days of China's economic reform, the difference between salary of the highest and lowest wage earners was about 1.8 times. Recent statistics show that people working in the fields of electricity, telecommunications, finance, insurance, and the tobacco industries make ten times more money than the average national salaries. We are thankful for the many highly-educated, believers who have high incomes in the urban churches. We ask the Lord to give them humility as they serve in the churches, to serve willingly, and be models for the young people there.
Wednesday
A private school for children recently raised its tuition by 70%, thus charging almost $3000. US a year. In the meantime the number of kindergartens in Beijing has decreased by 1,790 during the past fifteen years, creating a long waiting list of toddlers for the schools. Chinese parents are very much afraid their children will lose out in this early stage of education. We pray for all the young families in the churches as the parents worry about the education of their only child. We pray that Christian parents will all know their child is a gift from God and realize their responsibility to raise him up to fear and serve the Lord.
Thursday
Most of the new generation (99%) of migrant workers do not want to return home to the farm to work. The older generation of migrant workers have the option to return to their ancestral land to farm but the younger ones often have no land of their own so they want to stay in the cities. Once rural Christians leave home to work in the city, few ever return home although some do send money back. Rural churches thus see their offerings drop precipitously. We beseech the Lord once more for the declining rural churches to help that their ministries will not come to a halt and the pastors give up because of the lack of offerings.
Friday
Beijing is a typical mega city which is totally dependent on resources from outside. It is estimated that for every new person there, there is an additional 2.64 trips of daily traffic generated. The majority of Christians in Beijing must use public transportation or drive to church. Traffic jams and difficulty parking often become major issues in attending services. Let us pray for the growth of the churches and spiritual life of believers in Beijing.
Saturday
The gap in income between urban rural regions in China will persist for a long time. In the past fifteen years the true wages of migrant workers have increased by only 4%-6%. There is a huge gap between the rich and poor churches in China, too. Many would rather spend much money in building projects but then fail to help the small and poor churches nearby. We pray for actual and practical ways that the rich churches can help those who are weak and poor.
Sunday
It is a fact that rural believers have a lower standard of education than those in the city and this presents a huge problem when the pastors and leaders of the rural churches are not well-educated. Let us pray for all the leaders of rural churches in China, for wisdom, ability, and the opportunity for more education. We pray, too, for personal integrity and good interpersonal relationships.
Monday
Some people say that the majority of the churches in China are the urban, not the rural churches. The "major players" in the future will not be rural Christians, but rather Christian businessmen, highly-educated Christian intellectuals and young pastors. We know the Lord loves every member of His body no matter the education or status of the person and we continue to pray for the revival of urban churches so more people will come to know Jesus. We pray for rural believers that the Lord will be gracious to them so they will not lose heart or their passion for Him.

中國改革開放之初，城鎮各行業間收入水平高低差距約1.8倍左右。最近的統計資料發現：從事於電力、電信、金融、保險及煙草等行業的員工，薪水高於全國平均工資10倍。我們為許多城市教會中，有不少高教育、高薪水的會友感恩。求主使用他們, 在教會中能謙卑服事，在奉獻上更是甘心樂意，願意幫助推動更多的教會事工。在愛心、行為上更是能成為年輕人的好榜樣
星期三
北京私立學校學前班一年學費漲價70%，收費20480元。同時北京幼兒園在15年間減少1790所，因此幼兒教育的資源是供不應求，造成幼兒入學必須排長龍搶名額的現象。中國家長總是怕「孩子輸在起跑線上」，我們為城市教會年輕信徒家庭禱告。求主再次提醒我們，子女是神賜的產業，做為父母,養育敬畏及侍奉神的下一代才是最重要的教育.
星期四
中國99%新生代農民工不願回鄉務農。老一輩農民工即使失敗，家鄉仍有土地作為退路，但對新生代農民工而言，因無田可耕，土地不再是最後保障，真正融入城市生活成為多數人的願望。農村信徒一旦離開農村教會，就很少會再回家鄉，即使他們仍寄錢供養年長家人，但對農村教會的奉獻也大大減少。我們再次為中國農村教會的經濟狀況求主興起預備，好叫事工不因沒有奉獻而停頓，不使傳道人也因此放棄服事而進城打工。
星期五
北京是資源輸入型的特大城市, 98%的能源靠外地調入。北京巿報告顯示每增加1人，每日交通出行量就增加2.64次。大部份會友、慕道友都是以搭車方式上教會，若自己開車時，也一定會遇到停車、塞車的困難。雖然路程不遠，但交通因素卻常成為他們不去教會的藉口。我們為北京教會的成長及信徒靈命來祈求, 求神看顧他們的需要。
星期六
城鎮與農村收入差距大,這種情形己經持續很長一段時間了，過去15年中，農民工真實工資的年增幅只有4%~6%。中國教會當中富有與貧窮的差距很大，我們為信徒能以實際行動幫助貧困、軟弱的教會禱告。許多教會寧可花不少的錢財在硬體建築上，但對附近弱小的教會，卻不願盡彼此幫補的責任，求主憐憫，激勵信徒間能真誠彼此相顧，共同興旺神的國度。
星期日
農村信徒教育水平低是事實，但是農村教會領袖，包括未來的接班人，教育程度不能提高卻是影響未來農村教會發展不容忽視的問題。我們要為所有正在接受培訓裝備的傳道人禱告，求主加添他們智慧，給他們學習的能力、悟性與機會，更有善良正直的品格及美好的人際關係。

有人說：中國教會主流是城市教會，而不是農村教會：『未來中國基督教的主角』不是農村教徒（儘管現在在數量上是最多的），而是現代的新興基督教群體：「老闆基督徒」、「知識精英基督徒」和 「年輕一代的神職人員」。我們深信主愛每一個祂的肢体，不分貧窮貴賤或教育高低，都在救恩上有份，也同享主的同在與賜福。我們求主繼續興旺城市教會，以吸引更多人來信主。我們也記念農村的教會，求主恩待他們，使信徒信仰不冷淡，也不對神失去信心。
